JAKHONGIR SHUKUROV (UZ)

In my music I try to combine elements of the Uzbek and European musical traditions: using of the Uzbek traditional motives, imitation of the sound of Uzbek national instruments and presentation them through composition technique of the European tradition. Makom is the Uzbek classical musical heritage, which we reached from remote antiquity, not less rich than Indian Raga and other Eastern traditional music. Special scales of Makom and its structure are a great source of ideas for my work. The mixture of these two absolutely different cultures brings me to new melodic and colouristic ideas, which I endeavour to embody in the compositions.

JAKHONGIR SHUKUROV, composer of contemporary music was born in 1981 in the city of Bukhara (Uzbekistan). He graduated the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, department of composition (class by Professor F. Yanov-Yanovsky) and the department of conductor (Professor I. Azimov). In 2003 he took part in XII. International Workshop for Young Composers with Klaus Huber in Trebnitz (Germany), and in 2005 in the workshop Bang on a Can Summer Institute of Music at MASS MoCA (USA) with Steve Reich, Michael Gordon, David Lang and July Wolf.
The works of J. Shukurov were performed by European ensembles in the festivals of contemporary music in Germany, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Finland, USA and Uzbekistan.
J. Shukurov is one of the founders of Omnibus Ensemble (Uzbekistan). He conducted first time in Uzbekistan with Omnibus Ensemble Kammerkonzert of G.Ligeti, Concordanza and
Detto II of S. Gubaydullina and Kammermusik 1 of P. Hindemith.
