RAFFAELE GRIMALDI (IT) COMPOSER

“L’utilizzo del colore (derivato da esperienze personali), applicato a tutte le possibili articolazioni musicali (timbro, armonia, tempo) è l’aspetto peculiare del mio pensiero compositivo, il punto di partenza basilare, dal quale attingere nel momento della creazione. Da cio’ si schiudono altri aspetti caratteristici: la sperimentazione e l’uso di nuove tecniche strumentali estese, dedite appunto alla ricerca di nuovi colorismi.
Altro punto fondamentale è la costruzione, che io considero “ad anelli” e “linee”, ovvero una maniera di imbastire architetture formali ed estetiche su più livelli, grazie a parametri compositivi relazionabili sempre con l’insieme degli sviluppi, dove ritorni ed espansioni non sono mai regolari;
Inoltre l’elettronica, grazie alla sua vastità di risorse, ha suscitato la mia attenzione e stimolato la mia fantasia negli ultimi tempi.
La pittura, la poesia e la filosofia influiscono in maniera significativa sull’estetica generale del mio comporre.”


Curriculum: Composer, pianist and conductor. He graduated in Piano with Carmen Romano and Composition with Lucia Ronchetti at the Conservatory of music “G. Martucci” in Salerno with highest honors. At present he studies Orchestra Conduction, choral music and choir conduction, and he follows the courses of high improvement to the "Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia“ (Rome) and "Accademia musicale Pescarese” (Pescara) with Ivan Fedele. He has obtained some prizes in National and International Competition. His compositions have been performed in Europe and USA, and broadcasted by Rai Radio 3. He has developed musicology activity at the “San Carlo” theatre of Naples, obtaining a scholarship for his studies. In 2007 he was selected for the "Atelier de composition" held by Michael Jarrell, Marco Stroppa and Yan Maresz at the Centre Acanthes (Paris - Metz, France), he has had a new orchestral piece performed by the Orchestre National de Lorraine. Recently, he has been selected by the Reading Panel 2008- IRCAM (Paris - France) for the Cursus 1 in Composition and Computer Music 2008/2009, and obtaining the residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts. He was selected again to attend the composition workshop at the Centre Acanthes, will study with Salvatore Sciarrino and will have a new orchestral piece performed by Zsolt Nagy and the Soloists of the Orchestre National de Lorraine. Besides he has been selected by the ensemble Aleph for the V International Forum of Young Composers 2008 (France), was composer in residence in the city of Lyon (July 2008). He regularly plays piano both as soloist and with various formations, executing musics of classical authors, contemporary, and his compositions (has played in Rome, Milan, Naples, Barcelona, Wien, Budapest). From September 2008 he will be researcher at the Médiathèque Mahler in Paris, developing a project of research thanks to the European Placement on the music and the contemporary composers. In June 2008 the POGAS (Office for the juvenile politics and sporting activity), the GAI (Association for the circuit of the Young Italian Artists) and the PARC (general Direction for the architecture and contemporary arts of the Office for the cultural Activities) confer him the scholarship MOVIN'UP 2008, to support of his composer activity for the foreign countries. His works have been recorded from “TAUKAY” (International publishing house) and “RADIO RAI 3” (National radio). Recently has been selected (chairman Helmut Lachenmann) to compete for the Toru Takemitsu International Award (Tokyo - Japan), and his symphonic work will be performed by the Tokyo Philarmonic Orchestra. Someone of his works are published by Raitrade (Rome - Italy). Besides he cultivates the painting, poetry and the philosophy with particular interest.
