DAVID BALASANYAN (AM)

David Balasanyan (born 10 October 1983 Yerevan, Armenia) studied composition and piano with Ashot Ghazaryan at a music school at ,,Mkhitar Sebastatsi,, educational center in Yerevan from 1991-98 and composition with Ashot Ghazaryan and piano with Avetik Pivazyan at the Romanos Melikyan Music College in Yerevan from 1998-2000. He studied composition with prof. Ashot Zohrabyan at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory from 2000-05, where he has had post-graduate studies in composition with Ashot Zohrabyan since 2005. He is currently completing his musicology-thesis with Mher Navoyan.
2004-2005 assisted to composer Gevorg Armenyan teaching the Basis of choral composition. He participated with Ashot Zohrabyan as an Armenian delegate to the European Composers Congress in Vienna (Austria, 2006).
Since 2006, he has been a member of the Armenian Composers Union.
David is a co-founder of the Young Composers' Club at the Armenian Composers Union, and has served as its co-director since 2006.
Among his honors are Second Prize at the 90th Anniversary of Benjamin Britten Competition for chamber works (2003, Yerevan) for his ,,Composition’’ for woodwind quintet (2002-03) and the ,,Naregatsi Young Composers Award’’ (2006, Yerevan) for ,,Postlude In Memoriam...’’ for violin and piano (2003-04).
David Balasanyan also writes poems, many of which appear in his book ,,Arahetner’’(,,Paths’’) (2001, ,,Mitk’’ publishers, Yerevan).
David Balasanyan’s works has been performed at different concerts and music festivals not only in his homeland but also in Europe and Asia.
His compositions are publishing in Swiss Musical Publishing House ,,Sordino’’ and broadcasted by national Radio and Television.
